Last night left a plethora of democrats in high spirits towards the upcoming election after day two of the Democratic National Convention. From August 19th-22nd, the 2024 DNC is being held here in Chicago, hosting some of the most important political figures and selected delegates to tune into the ongoing fight for Vice President Harrisโ€™ presidential campaign.

True Star students Sullivan Anderson and Jada Strong were able to cover this event thanks to the Youth Advisory Council, supporting their mission of educating adolescents on the policies that directly impact their future.

Taking place in Chicagoโ€™s West Loop, lines went down multiple blocks to enter the United Center. Protesters were seen outside the perimeter of the event space, adding a sharp essence among the crowd of anticipating attendees.

After a long and tedious wait, going through the Secret Serviceโ€™s security had marked the end of the journey as people walked to the event. Separate from the crowd waiting to enter the stadium, when entering through the doors the attitude shifted. The stadium was lively and full of excitement, which was visible in the banter of the crowd. According to demconvention.com, 81 million people tuned in to watch either on TV or online.

The bulk of the convention consisted of Democratic representatives from each state expressing the necessity of political consciousness in each demographic of voters. Figures like J.B. Pritzker, Bernie Sanders, and eventually Michelle and Barack Obama held the floor throughout the duration of the night. Michelle Obama set the stage on fire as she encouraged voters to not get discouraged, but to stay vigilant and keep fighting for a win. โ€œIf we see a mountain in front of us, we donโ€™t expect there to be an escalator waiting to take us to the top. We put our heads down. We get to work.โ€

When the former president took the stage and mentioned Trump, the crowd booed. He replied with his now famous line, โ€œDonโ€™t boo. Vote.โ€ Something we all need to do on November 5th.
