A Single’s Guide To Surviving V-Day

Now that Valentine’s Day is here, we’re sure to see Instagram posts of couples expressing their love for each other, Snapchats of date nights, and all the gifts people have received from their significant other.

And then there’s the rest of us. No plans but to sit and watch Netflix all day and possibly feeling pretty lonely. Valentine’s Day is about love so why not show yourself some that day! Here are a few ways to celebrate V-Day while single.

Buy Yourself Chocolates or Flowers

It’s a nice reminder that you should be as kind to yourself as a significant other would be to you. Not only will flowers brighten up your room but it can also brighten up your mood. Indulging your taste buds with chocolates will also put a smile on your face. Treat yourself! You deserve it.

Name a Cockroach After Your Ex!

Still heartbroken from a breakup? That’s okay because Brookfield Zoo has your back. On Valentine’s Day, you can go name a Madagascar hissing cockroach after your ex or someone who did you wrong. You will receive a Certificate of Naming that you can fill out. Either share it with your ex or keep it to humor yourself.

Surround Yourself With Friends

Platonic relationships are just as important as romantic ones (Ever heard of Galentine’s Day). Go out to dinner with some friends on V-Day, or maybe just stay in and watch movies together. You can all even exchange gifts with each other. Being reminded that you are loved by those close to you is a very heartwarming feeling.

Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be as devastating as people make it out to be for those of us who are single. Appreciate the love that’s around you this year, because I promise you, it’s there.
