Her album “Music Speaks”  received great reviews from several major media sources, but what did you expect when the artist has a voice like an angel………Candice Glover won the heart of millions every week and and took home the crown of America’s Idol. True Star recently got a chance to get up close and personal with Candice to see what she has going on and what we can expect from her in the near future.

How was the process of recording your first album? Is there anything you would have changed?

– I recorded with some of the biggest names in the industry including Harvey Mason Jr and the Underdogs, Rock City AKA Planet VI, the Jackie Boyz who are from Savannah GA, not too far from where I’m from (Beaufort, SC) Rob Kleiner and more. – If I could change anything about the process of creating my album, I would have written more. Forever That Man wasn’t the only song I wrote but ultimately it was the only one I chose because honestly I wasn’t confident enough in my lyrics. Jhene Aiko and Jazmine Sullivan are my two favorite female songwriters and I look up to them so much, so hopefully for my second project I get that confidence boost to showcase my writing a lot more.

How did you feel when you first heard the track “Damn”; Was it out of your comfort zone or was it just a good song that you knew you would slay once you got in the recording studio?

At first, I didn’t know how my fans would take it. I was portrayed on American Idol as the church girl, and I didn’t want my fans to be thrown off. But since then I have decided to completely be myself and not really worry about the opinions of others. I really like the song and I know a lot of “side chicks” can attest to the situation the song talks about haha.

Do you ever see yourself doing a gospel album, if so which gospel artist would be your inspiration?

I don’t know if I see myself doing a gospel CD, but I wouldn’t be against the idea. I definitely admire a lot of gospel singers. I grew up listening to Yolanda Adams, Cece Winans, Kim Burrell and Kirk Franklin.

When can we expect a sophomore album and possible tour?

As of now I’m really focusing on who I want to be, how I want to look, and what I want to sound like. There are a couple of tour ideas being thrown around and I promise you will be the first to know! 🙂

This year at BET’s 2014 Gospel Celebration you wowed the crowd with your incredible performance and stunning presence. Do you ever get nervous with performances like that?

Thank you 🙂 no matter what performance I have, I am always crazy nervous! I can’t even be a part of the audience. I have to walk straight on the stage before my performance, and walk straight off and back into the green room. If I sit in the room I am constantly beating myself up about it and I psych myself out.

When legends like Mariah Carey tell you, YOU can sang it really means YOU can sang!

Yassss!!!!!!

Have any other artists you admire given you such praise regarding your talent?

Oh my gosh. Patti Labelle told me she cried when she listened to my single. Tamela Mann, David Mann, Bebe Winans, Yolanda Adams, DRAKE! My fave lol. Joe, Brandy, Kelly Price, Ledisi, Maurette Brown Clark, Richard Smallwood, Donnie McKlurkin, and a lot more!

What’s the most important thing you’ve learned in this ever so changing entertainment industry thus far?

I’ve learned that being yourself FROM THE BEGINNING is the key. Authenticity is really what people connect with.

Did you lose, or find out which friends were real and which were not after winning American Idol?

I’ve never been the popular girl in school, and I didn’t have a million friends but I gained a lot of “friends” LOL. I have about 4 real friends that I’ve had for about 6 years, and they have been the best friends I could ask for. My mom is also one of my best friends.

Chocolate or Vanilla?

Weird, but I hate chocolate. Lol so I’ll have to choose vanilla 🙂

What is your favorite season?

Autumn. It’s not too hot and not too cold. The colors are beautiful, and my birthday is also in the fall 🙂 November 22.

What’s your current top 5 music playlist?… These are in no particular order but these are the songs I turn on as soon as I take off on an airplane or jump in my car.
1. Bang Bang – Jessie J, Ariana Grande, and Nicki Minaj
2. Blue Dream – Jhene Aiko
3.The Pressure – Jhene Aiko
4. Grindin – Lil Wayne and Drake
5. About the Money – Young Thug and TI

6. Flawless Remix – Beyonce and Nicki Minaj

7. Forever Don’t Last Jazmine Sullivan 8. Fall in Love – Keke Wyatt

Any advice for young ones like yourself who want to achieve what you’ve achieved?

Like I said, authenticity is what works. Be yourself completely. Don’t think twice about what someone would think if you did something. JUST DO IT! People will respect you so much more if you are true to yourself.

Do you see acting in your future or is music your only interest as of now?

I’m actually in a movie on the Hallmark Channel called Northpole starring Tiffani Amber Theissen. I had a small role but it was so fun seeing the other side of things. Acting is so fun and I would love to do something else on the big BIG screen 🙂

Note to Candice Glover.
You are young, beautiful, talented and the best has yet to come. American Idol does not define you and never will. You will become a legend and you will change the lives of our generation. Your music opens our eyes and your music does in fact, Speak!

You have no idea what this means to me. I try to do everything I can to remain positive and give my fans nothing but the best. I’m working on scratching that Idol stamp off my forehead and moving forward and becoming the artist I really want to be. It means the world that I have your support!!!! Thank you so much 🙂
