As of late, I have been obsessed with this niche micro-trend of wearing socks and heels. I’ve seen the perfectly classy yet funky look achieved in both business and casual wear.
In a world of ballet flats, cowboy boots, and New Balance ‘grandpa-core’ shoe trends, Spring/Summer SS22 fashion shows birthed the emergence of the sock and heel trend. Bringing life and fun to footwear, brands like Miu Miu, known for preppy footwear, featured socks with their heels to add simultaneous hints of whimsy and sophistication. Whereas Saint Laurent incorporated its very own socks and trousers, paired with heels to exude an edgy, socialite energy.
If you’re not tapped into the fashion scene, I’m sure you’ve noticed the resurgence of this trend with artists like Doechii, whose performance looks often include this preppy, comfortable vibe achieved with socks and Miu Miu heels.
Wondering how you can join in but make it your own? Here are some tips to spice up the socks and heels look:
- Sock and pump MANIA: The biggest takeaway from this article should be to not shy away from funk or whimsy. It’s okay to go a little overboard with patterns, textures, or colors, and you are even more than welcome to explore different shapes and styles of heels; from classic pumps to kitten heels โ this freedom and authenticity will create a look that’ll undeniably stand out.
- Heeled flats, kitten heels, and long socks combo: Very chic, very classy! Whether you’re in sportswear or aiming for a more vintage vibe. Heeled flats and the long sock combination scream the late 80s and early 90s vibes.
- Ballet core edition: This can be achieved in so many different ways. Whether you pair socks with heeled ballet flats or incorporate leg warmers over the shoe, the options are endless. Style how your heart desires!
- Indie-sleaze: A personal favorite, Indie-sleaze was meant to be an affordable and messy approach to vintage fashion and dominated from 2004 to about 2016 in the U.S. and U.K. When you think Indie-sleaze, picture the TV show “Skins” and the epitome of the party girl aesthetic. How can this correlate to the often sleek or preppy approach to the sock and heel trend? Though unconventional, you can style this with heeled boots like Jadon Doc Martens or sneaker-like heeled shoes like Isabel Marant.
There are a plethora of ways you can go about styling and partaking in the socks and heels movement, and it all depends on your personal taste in fashion and footwear! So, what’s your opinion, is the sock and heels trend ICONIC or NOT-it?
