Are Your Still Ordering Take-out?

When the early cases of COVID-19 hit the United States, Chinese restaurants took a big hit. Not long after that, mayors and governors across the country ordered citizens to stay in and prohibited them from gathering in large groups. That’s when all the restaurants started hurting. Take-out and drive-thru are now the only ways to grab a quick meal and they are the only ways these eateries are managing to stay alive.

In these days of the pandemic, the question is: Are people still trusting a stranger to make their food instead of making their own home-cooked meal? Well, according to npr.org, there’s still a large amount of food delivery drivers coming in and out of fast food/restaurant doors. “In the last two hours, I’ve done about 15 deliveries, which is more than normal,” says Raymond Neville who’s been driving for Uber Eats for about two years.

During a recent Twitter poll, 62 percent of the participants said that they still plan on ordering takeout during the coronavirus pandemic while 37 percent said they would not. If you’re among the group still ordering your meals, here are some safety suggestions.

*Make sure you throw out the packaging your food came in asap and wash your hands right after. The CDC says, according to a recent study, there’s a risk of coming in contact with the virus with a surface that has the virus on it. Experts are saying that the virus can live up to three days on plastic surfaces and up to 24 hours on cardboard.

*Remember to decontaminate any areas that have touched the packaging and it would probably be best for you to use your own utensils.

*If you want to be very safe, several apps have added “no-contact” and “contact-free delivery options” such as Postmates and Grubhub, where you are allowed to designate where your food should be left at.
