Beyoncé’s video for her new single “Spirit” is all anyone is talking about this week, especially since the live-action version of The Lion King is set to release on Thursday. Her involvement in the movie seems like the most perfect thing anyone could ask for, and the release of the video and song, that she specifically co-wrote for the movie, has left everyone SHOOK! It debuted less than 24 hours ago and the video already has over 3 million views!
The visuals were completely based off African culture and life which makes it relate to the movie. The video also has various scenes from the movie like Simba and Nala running through the village, the hyenas creating chaos, and Rafiki breaking fruit to paint Simba’s head. I loved the sneak peek of the remake and it only made me even more anxious to see the movie soon.
According to variety.com, Queen Bey had only shot this video last week. LAST WEEK?!? Word is she sent in the request for the shoot on Monday, and she flew out to the Grand Canyon on Thursday. You couldn’t even tell that it was almost impromptu with the location, dancers, elaborate costumes, and extravagant hairstyles. Beyoncé rocks one-of-a-kind costuming complete with fringe, feathers, and bright colors. She even gave me some long hair with body then switched it up with some fulani braids. The all Black cast topped it all off as they were decked out in durags, face paint, and they only did modern and African dance moves. Talk about some culture! Beyoncé showed appreciation for her identity and brought some more Black excellence into the world!
