Biles & Washington Among Medal of Freedom Recipients

From athletes to actors to politicians, President Joe Biden awarded 17 Americans the Presidential Medals of Freedom, the highest honor to a US civilian.

These recipients have made a significant contribution to the country and are being recognized nationally. The ceremony took place at the White House on July 7th. US Olympic Gymnast Simone Biles and Academy Award-winning actor Denzel Washington were among the recipients. Critical Care Nurse Sandra Lindsay, the first person to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, also received the honor.

Other recipients included Sister Simone Campbell, Julieta García, Gabrielle Giffords, Fred Gray, Father Alexander Karloutsos, Khizr Khan, Diane Nash, Megan Rapinoe, Alan Simpson, Wilma Vaught, and Raúl Yzaguirre, according to the official White House website.

Posthumous honorees included Steve Jobs, John McCain, and Richard Trumka.
