Simeon legend and TF North Coach Tim Bankston is keeping Bob Hambric’s legacy alive with the 14th annual Bob Hambric Shootout. Hambric, according to the Chicago Tribune, never had a losing season in 24 years during his coaching time with the boys basketball team at Simeon Career Academy.  This year’s Bob Hambric Shootout took place at TF North High School and was supposed to kick off at noon, but unfortunately got set back thanks to a game cancellation due to the weather. The first game of the day was TF North vs. King High School. TF North played hard the whole game to not lose on their own court and came out successful winning 60-32.

The first day also consisted of Flint Elite from Flint Michigan, against Farragut with Flint Elite winning, Bogan vs. Brooks with Bogan taking the win, and Joliet West vs. Rich Township and Rich Township taking the win. Coach Greg McMath of Flint Elite, stated, “This is an amazing experience. We drove all the way from Michigan. The boys need to get out there environment and face different competition.”

Day two was also exciting. There were four games: Lincoln Park vs. Burton Madison (Michigan), Phillips vs. TF North, Proviso West vs. Thornwood and last Proviso East vs. Don Bosco Prep. All the games were intense and the fans were enjoying them. The crowd was pretty much sold out for both days.

North again defended their territory winning 70-69 in overtime. TF North Coach Tim Bankston stated, “This is what it’s all about, keeping Bob Hambric’s legacy alive through basketball. It feels good getting both wins, but again it’s about Bob Hambric and the athletes having fun. Everyone in here are friends and we’ll be looking to compete again next year.”
