Cassie Claims Diddy Abused Her, Files Suit

Singer Cassie Ventura recently filed a lawsuit claiming music mogul Sean Diddy Combs abused her for years while they dated. According to rollingstone.com, Ventura filed her lawsuit under New York’s Adult Survivors Act, a one-year window in which victims of sexual abuse can file lawsuits irrespective of the statute of limitations. The deadline ends next week.

The internet has gone into complete shock.

Sean Combs, one of the most famous producer and music moguls in the industry in hip-hop for decades, was sued by Cassie for $30 million for physical abuse and rape. The R&B singer was once signed to his label and is now the ex-girlfriend of Combs. She claims the abuse lasted throughout the entire duration of their relationship which spanned over a decade. According to apnews, “Cassie, whose legal name is Casandra Ventura, alleged in the suit filed against … Combs brought her into his ‘ostentatious, fast-paced, and drug-fueled lifestyle’ not long after she met him and signed to his label when she was 19 and he was 37 in 2005. Attorney Ben Brafman said Combs ‘vehemently denies’ the allegations. Ventura, now 37 herself, said Combs, now 54, [claims] the pattern of abuse began as soon as their relationship did.”

As soon as the news broke, fans have immediately taken to the immense support and defense of Cassie in light of this heartbreaking news. Critics and theories have increased regarding Combs prior involvement with ‘Bad Boy Records,’ prior alleged physical abuse claims from other women, the death of his ex-long time partner, Kim Porter, and more have brought him to high public scrutiny. However, no one was prepared for this shocking news to be released from one of the most beloved “IT” girls of the 2000s. According to apnews, “The suit alleges that, ‘prone to uncontrollable rage,’ he subjected her to ‘savage’ beatings in which he punched, kicked and stomped her.’ It alleges he plied her with drugs, and forced her to have sex with other men while he masturbated and filmed them. The suit says that as she was trying to end the relationship in 2018, Combs forced her into her Los Angeles home and raped her. ‘After years in silence and darkness, I am finally ready to tell my story, and to speak up on behalf of myself and for the benefit of other women who face violence and abuse in their relationships,’ Ventura said in a statement.”

As the revelations and court documents have been released to the public, social media and platforms are beginning to take sides as to where they stand in this case of domestic violence and prior #MeToo movement. Fans and audiences are trending with their responses of Combs’ previous sit-down attempt with Cassie to offer a settlement for her silence. According to New York Times, Doug Wigdor, a lawyer for Ventura, said, “Mr. Combs offered Ms. Ventura eight figures to silence her and prevent the filing of this lawsuit.” Wigdor added, “She rejected his efforts and decided to give a voice to all woman who suffer in silence.  Ms. Ventura should be applauded for her bravery.”

We send our prayers to Cassie and her family during this time.
