Chicago has a rich history with the Negro Leagues as the home of the American Giants and many great men who helped advance the sport of baseball for the African-American community, such as Ted “Double Duty” Radcliffe.

True Star Media and the Chicago White Sox invite students to reflect and honor the notable men who helped pave the way for African Americans in baseball.  Submit a video that celebrates those men and their contributions, ensuring that their bravery and spirit continue to live on beyond the baseball field.

Videos should be two minutes or less and can be submitted individually or in groups of 2-3 students. Contest is open to students in grades 6-12 in the Chicagoland area and Northwest Indiana.

Here is what you do…

1) Select a Negro League baseball player –

2) Create a 2 minute or less video honoring and celebrating the player.  The video can be an original poem, essay, or speech read aloud.  You can also mix your video with images, sound, or video.

3) Submit your video in mp4 format.

4) Email video to include your name, age, school, and phone number.

The winning video will receive:

  • On-field recognition and four (4) tickets for a 2016 White Sox game
  • Video played in U.S. Cellular Field during a 2016 White Sox game
  • White Sox prize pack
  • Profile in True Star Magazine
