Let’s get one thing straight: The college application process is not easy! Okay now that we’ve established that good news, for Illinois residents the state commission is offering free college readiness help this fall. There will be workshops hosted in order for students and their families to get assistance in not only the college application process but with financial aid too. So don’t worry, you and your parents don’t have to tackle FAFSA and application fees alone.
Personally, this is a wonderful idea. For many first generation students like myself, the college process can be exhausting and confusing and without the proper guidance you can wind up missing certain application deadlines. This level of assistance will hopefully minimize that stress.
You may be wondering why exactly has Illinois decided to be so generous and help us out? Well, turns out that Illinois has a plan that involves increasing the proportion of adults with high quality degrees and credentials from the current 50% to 60%. Looking ahead, this will be beneficial seeing as though many jobs nowadays require you to have a bachelor’s degree or higher.
Tatiana Sykes a student at Brooks College Prep stated, “This is a good idea to help kids, especially those that don’t have the financial expenses to pay for assistance or go to schools that don’t offer that level of support.”
