Concerned About Project 2025?

You should be.

The 2024 presidential election is shortly approaching with lots of fundamental liberties at stake. Both candidates have opposing views, but one candidate’s platform is causing younger generations to reconsider what’s important to them. Former President Donald Trump’s campaign has been under the spotlight as more people are becoming aware of Project 2025. Trump denies any connection to Project 2025, despite many authors of the Project being former members of his Cabinet. Project 2025 is also known as the Presidential Transitional Project, which will serve as a conservative guide if a Republican gets elected.

The Center for Information & Research on Civic Learning and Engagement states, “In the next presidential election, 40.8 million members of Gen Z (ages 18-27 in 2024) will be eligible to vote.” The upcoming election is very crucial as it will determine a new normal for America. Gen Z will play an instrumental role in the election, so they deserve to know the impact of Project 2025 if it’s implemented. Project 2025 intends to challenge various fundamental rights every American should be guaranteed.

Access to abortion pills and birth control will be limited under Project 2025. Politicians shouldn’t  have the ability to tell women what’s best for their bodies. Every woman should have the right to seek medical attention and have access to medication if they so choose. According to the World Health Organization, “Lack of access to safe, affordable, timely and respectful abortion care.., pose risks to women’s physical and mental well-being throughout the life-course.” This implementation can potentially cause more damage to a woman’s body than if they received an abortion.

The LGBTQ+ community will be targeted under Project 2025. While there aren’t any current plans to ban same sex marriage, there are plans to revoke protections against the gay community. Under Project 2025, conservatives plan to garner more support for heterosexual marriages compared to gay marriages.

Daria Taylor, a junior at Morgan Park High School, said, “I think Project 2025 will be bad for Black people and cause suffrage. I think it will also be bad for those of the LGBTQ+ community.”

Other rights that can potentially be impacted are: gender equality, higher taxes for the working class, ending the Affordable Care Act, raising prescription drug prices, ending climate protections, and the list goes on and on. Project 2025 is a threat to democracy, but the power is in your vote.
