The DNC kicked off Day 2 with the Women’s Caucus. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, Harris Campaign National Co-Chair Rep. Veronica Escobar, and Mini Timmaraju, President of Reproductive Freedom for All. The opening quote from Senator Gillibrand was, “When women fight, we all fight, and we win.” The panelist also stated that the Women’s Caucus was the first Caucus to ever be created in the DNC with the Black Caucus being the second. The Women’s Caucus ended around noon, and the next Caucuses that kicked off were the Disability Caucus featuring Janni Lehrer-Stein, the Rural Caucus featuring Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear and the Black Caucus featuring Tennessee State Rep. Justin Pearson.
The other caucus and council events that took place were the Poverty Council and the Veterans and Military Council featuring Rep. Jason Crow and Rep. Patrick Murphy, and the Interfaith Council. Each council and caucus spoke on important issues that the United States faces and that Kamala Harris and her team plan to fix. Some of the issues spoken about were labor rights and how Harris feels you should only need one job to provide for your family. Harris’ team also spoke about Abortion rights and keep our voting right. One big issue that the team plans to target is Project 2025 if Donald Trump wins this year election. DNC Chair Jamie Harrison stated, “Day one was amazing. I loved how everyone was taking shots at Donald Trump. We don’t want to elect anyone that will set us back to segregation. Kamala will win in November and when she does, it will break records.”
Each year we won was because we came together and had high spirits. You seen it with Obama and in 2020 with Joe Biden. Now you will see it again in November with Kamala Harris. Day two featured many great speakers such as Michelle and Barack Obama, JB Pritzker, Harris’s husband Douglas Craig Emhoff, Tammy Duckworth, a special performance by Common and many more.
