Don’t Sleep on “Star Wars: Andor”

“Star Wars: Andor” recently ended after 12 episodes of awesomeness the franchise hasn’t seen in a while.

If you’re still sleeping on this series, then wake up! Even though the premise (A prequel to the movie Rogue One, which is already a prequel to A New Hope) might seem a little tiresome, it makes up for it with a surprisingly mature and intense journey following characters such as the rebel Cassian Andor, the senator Mon Mothma, and new ones that are introduced.

A definite highlight of the show was Andy Serkis’s character, Kino Loy (He also plays Snoke in the “Star Wars” sequel trilogy, but these aren’t the same person). Even though he only appeared for about three episodes, his performance was just a chef’s kiss all around, especially with his line: “Never more than twelve.” Yeah, if you were watching, you’d know exactly what this is referencing.

The leading cast did amazing, too! Mon Mothma (played by Genevieve O’Reilly) immediately comes to mind, with her subtle facial expressions every time she has to evade her husband and the other senators when she’s conspiring against the empire, which goes hand in hand with Luthen Rael’s (Stellan Skarsgård) acting chops as well.

And of course who could forget Andor’s mom (Fiona Shaw) and her heartbreaking scene in the last episode? It’ll for sure have you grabbing the nearest tissue box.

All in all, “Andor” is a dark and gritty drama that tackles the ugly side of this era in the universe. With a surplus of great reviews from critics, and rising viewership numbers, it’s no surprise that this show is already working on its second season, according to Collider.

Even though this show might be less popular than the one that just came out, “Obi-Wan Kenobi,” don’t let that dissuade you from watching it. It’s truly the surprise hidden gem to wrap up “Star Wars” in the year 2022. Stream it now on Disney+.

I love nerding out over Star Wars, Gravity Falls, and Lord of the Rings. I'm an introvert with a never ending appreciation for all things Sci-Fi and fantasy media.
