The HBO hit “Euphoria” may be off the air but its influence still lives on. Doniella Davy, the head makeup artist for the show, has set a whole new agenda in the makeup realm by giving actors more than just makeup to express their character traits. During an interview with Cosmopolitan, Davy said that her inspiration is us—Gen Z. “These young people are pushing the boundaries and not living by mainstream archetypes or stereotypes,” said Davy.

“I’ll do 25 to life, if it makes me a King — a star in your eyes,” – Labrinth, All for Us. This song lyric connection was a divine coincidence. Thank you @alexelijahc for pointing this out! The Episode 8 glitter tears (on the right) were meant to be a gritty & real version of the hallucinated gold glitter tears in the blanket fort in Episode 2 (the bottom image) and the big iridescent star was meant to tie into the billboard image from Episode 1 (on the left). P.S. Did anyone notice when the iridescent star disappeared in Episode 8? Definitely some meaning there ? // A complete breakdown of Rue’s winter formal look is coming soon, as well as a breakdown of the process and concept behind the silicone-encapsulated gold glitter tear prosthetics used on the dancers during the final scene. #euphoriahbo #euphoriahbomakeup #rueeuphoria #glittertears
Generation Z is getting super creative and testing all the limits. Davy ditches regular standards of makeup that only include eyeshadow, mascara and a good gloss. Davy experiments with drawings on the face where eyeshadow would typically go and glitter can be worn on eyelids, eyebrows, and just about anywhere else on the face. Through makeup Davy is secretly expressing all the pain and madness of the characters life using “expressive color, shapes, placement, glitter, gems, and rhinestones.”

PSA: There’s more to Maddy’s makeup than rhinestones and cat-eyes! ??Underneath her elaborate armor, Maddy feels the pain of crushed childhood dreams and a psychotic and abusive boyfriend. I designed her makeup to have a fantastical element to it because despite her fierce outward personality, Maddy is a diehard Romantic who wants to transcend the “loveless marriage” that is her home life. Swipe to see some of my favorite looks that @kirinrider gorgeously brought to life, always adding her own unique flair! The last pic was just a random makeup test that I did on Alexa before we started filming, but I think it fits in with this post. #euphoriahbo #euphoriahbomakeup #rhinestones #rhinestonebrows #rhinestoneeyes #feeleuphoria #euphoriamaddy
Davy’s creative makeup designs aren’t just made with colors. She even uses crafts to portray a wild persona that speaks without using words. This is especially relevant since Halloween is quickly approaching. The use of rhinestones can be used to compliment fairy costumes, a unicorn look, and so many other DIY costumes. Even everyday looks can be transformed and made unique. There is no “wrong” way to create a Davy inspired look. I love her style because there are unlimited ways to create what you want. Add a triangle here, a rhinestone there, or some glitter. Basically anything you want is possible! Check out her Instagram page @donni.davy to be inspired.
