Looking for ways to make Thanksgiving fun with family and friends while practicing social distancing this year? Look no further. True Star has compiled a list of activities perfect for your Zoom reunions and socially distant gatherings! Here are a few fun activities to make the holiday feel less distant.
To make the call less awkward than talking to a blank screen, try sharing your screen for virtual games. My friend group uses Jackbox.tv games and Kahoot.it to start virtual live quizzes that everyone can participate in like a game show! You can create your own Kahoot.it based on some of your favorite family moments and inside jokes, or use one of the trending ones, all free to users! Jackbox.tv is a virtual server that offers multiple different competitions and games, so make sure everyone has the correct code and screen you can share to your heart’s content.
Another trend going around on TikTok during quarantine is PowerPoint Presentation Nights: use Google Slides or another visual presentation app to make a slideshow on any varying topic to present to the group. Some examples of prompts are: “Why My Favorite Holiday Movie is the Best Holiday Movie” or “What Each Family Member’s Hogwarts House is and Why.” It doesn’t matter how silly or specific, but presenting your case to the group is a great way to spark conversation and bond over shared interests.
This last activity can be achieved virtually or socially distanced at home, but you can never go wrong with a good talent show. Showing off quarantine skills or a show and tell for a new craft is a fun way to catch up with your loved ones! In times where isolation is more common than community, taking responsibility to check in and show interest in your loved ones’ interests is a great method of connection. As the holidays approach and the weather turns, stay safe and stay inside!
