FTG Spotlight Feature: Jackpot Jigga

Our next Spotlight Feature is Jackpot Jigga. At age 14, the Kenwood High School student is the youngest artist to have competed in the True Star Open Mic Showcase. This Saturday he will be performing live on the main stage at the From the β€˜Go Fest. Keep reading to learn more about him!

What does it mean to you to perform at the FTG Fest?Β

It definitely means a lot. You know it’s a lot of exposure and it’s an opportunity to meet and connect with new people.

How would you describe yourself as an artist?Β

I would describe myself as very calm and laid back. A little laid back, but also determined and focused on reaching my goal.

How did your passion for music begin?

When I was younger, around 6 years old, my mom had a dance team and a couple rappers on the side. I guess I was bored of being on the side and watching everyone else do their thing, so I decided I wanted to go for it.

Who are your musical influences?

I would say Jay Z, Lil Yachty, and probably Drake. Not at the moment, but if you asked me like a month ago definitely Drake.

How did you come up with your stage name?Β

When I was younger my family called me Jigga. They said I was a cool dude. Since that name was taken by Jay Z, my mom and I decided to find something catchy that would embody a cool dude.

What are your main goals for a music career?

One of my main goals is to have my music hit the top 100 charts, preferably the Top 10. I understand that I have to work extremely hard but, that’s a major dream to me.

What artists would you like to collaborate with in the future?

Jay Z. In the future, I would definitely like to work with him. I would also like to collaborate with Drake. He has a really dope team and we have similar music styles.

Where do you hope to have the opportunity to perform one day?Β

I would say working at a record label or performing on the biggest stages in the world.

What has been the highlight of your musical career this far?Β

Thus far, my favorite thing is traveling. Hitting the stage in a new environment and traveling feeling like a celebrity is really dope.

What are your hobbies outside of music?Β

I like to play basketball a lot. I like gaming, but I’ll probably get out of that when get a little older. Also school; I’m really focused on my education.

We hit the jackpot with this one! Be sure to come check out Jackpot Jigga this Saturday at the From The β€˜Go Fest July 27th from 1:00 – 7:00 pm at the DuSable Museum. Click here to get a free ticket!
