Golden Brooks Drops Nuggets of Wisdom

Golden Brooks

Golden Brooks captured the hearts of America as an actress with spunk, spice, and everything nice, portraying Maya Wilkes on the hit show “Girlfriends”. From being nominated for two NAACP Image Awards for Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series, to her new role on “Power Book II: Ghost,” Brooks is a great example of how charisma and faith intertwine to propel you towards your dreams.

This past Wednesday afternoon, Golden Brooks sought out young people to give her inspiration. There were about fifteen young creatives on the call, all of whom admired her work and were eager to hear her words of encouragement as an established actress.

We all need a little motivation to accomplish those dreams every once in a while. After having the chance to speak with Brooks, the remnants of our feelings could be summed into one word: inspired.

“We can count the amount of times we’ve heard yes on our hands,” Brooks explained to True Star. “The no’s are going to frustrate you, and make you question your talent and purpose. The no’s have always affected me, but they’re not what makes me feel that I’m not worthy.”

Brooks added, “You go into this business to learn how to move through the world as an artist.”

Those words are important, especially as we are starting out in our careers and need the grit to make our goals happen for ourselves. Brooks is definitely making it happen for herself as an actress – her newest featured role as Janet Stewart in the final season of “Power Book II: Ghost,” further solidifies her place in Hollywood. She portrays a cousin of Monet Tejada who is played by singer-turned-actress Mary J. Blige.

Brooks stars as Janet Stewart in the final season of “Power Book II: Ghost” now streaming on STARZ.

“As young people, you have to learn how to move with the world as an artist,” she explained. “Keep practicing, keep studying, and keep trying to find ways to exercise your skill.”

Wise words.

We appreciate your golden wisdom, Ms. Brooks. To see more of our girl, tune into season four of “Power,” which is now streaming on STARZ.
