In the new season premiere of “Grown-ish” that introduced us into Zoey’s money making junior year, they paid tribute to inspirations dedicated to Queen B. If you didn’t peep, take a look at Zoey and her best friends outfits for their junior year party thrown at their new apartment which featured HBCU music and dancers. I sincerely hope you got the reference to Beychella because if you didn’t, where have you been for the past two years?
Props go out to how the “Grown-ish” writers set up this episode and made us forget about the season promo. They provided us with Zoey’s personal distractions–Luka and Aaron–and highlighted what she has accomplished by being Joey Bada$$’s new personal stylist in London this past summer. The additional guest appearances of Joey Bada$$ throughout the episode most definitely pleased his fans. Will he become a regular in the new season? I guess we’ll have to wait to find out.
Although I completely believe Zoey could never take Aaron seriously and that he would only be a rebound, we find out a new crucial piece of information from Zoey’s perspective between her and Luka. She finds out from Luka that he came to the airport to talk to her on the day she left for London. This new piece of information left Zoey terribly conflicted and wondering what Luka had to say. Was he going to confess his undying love for her? Was he going to accompany her to London for the summer? Were they going to get back together?
Although she desperately wanted answers at first, she realized the hard way that sometimes not knowing what you thought you wanted, might actually be better for you in the end. If Luka did end up catching her at the airport, maybe she wouldn’t have made it on the plane. But who knows what would’ve happened. After some rude comments from Luka about how and why Zoey got her styling gig, she finally seemed to be able to let go and come to grips with that truth.
Towards the end of the episode, I realized that the question thousands of viewers were waiting to be answered, hadn’t been revealed. When one member of the cast makes a fashionably late appearance I gasped. In a shocking twist that I definitely didn’t expect, the cast member that’s pregnant was featured, which was… Nomi! Who could’ve seen that coming?
Fans know from past episodes that Nomi has preferred being romantically involved with women. Who could’ve possibly gotten her prego? It looks like we’re in for a bumpy ride this season.
