The reimagined Disney classic “The Little Mermaid” – the first live action Black Disney Princess – did not disappoint.
The movie is doing big numbers, grossing over $200 million in box office so far. According to cnbc.com, during Memorial Day weekend, “Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” hooked nearly $96 million over its first three days in North American theaters.”
The movie had a stacked cast with its most known actors including Hamilton star Daveed Diggs, comedian and actor Nora Lum AKA Awkwafina, Emmy award-winning actor Melissa McCarthy, and of course the lovely Halle Bailey who plays the lead role of Ariel.
The movie checked every box. The cast was amazing, and don’t get me started on the soundtrack. The Little Mermaid 2023 Original Motion Picture Soundtrack includes all the favorites like “Under the Sea,” “Part of Your World,” “Kiss the Girl,” and more, but this soundtrack brought some new additions with the help of the original composer Alan Menken and the multi-award winning composer Lin-Manuel Miranda.
Overall I give the movie a 9/10, it was done extremely well, but to be honest, I don’t feel the urge to watch the movie again. The remake did a great job paying homage to the 1989 classic film.
