High School Hoops Shine at CEC Games

NBA legend Derrick Rose was among the attendees at this year’s Chicago Elite Classic.

As it does every year, the Chicago Elite Classic brought out basketball of every age.
The recent event officially kicked off December 3rd, at Marist High School with the elementary
school teams, then picked back up on Friday and carried through Saturday with boys’
high school match-ups at UIC.

This year’s Classic brought together some of Chicago’s best programs Simeon, Whitney
Young, Warren, Hyde Park, and plenty more. It wasn’t just a local showcase either. The
field also included top teams from outside Illinois, like Chaminade from St. Louis, La
Lumiere from Indiana, and Sidwell Friends from D.C. Friday’s games ran from 4:30 p.m.
to 10:30 p.m., and Saturday was a full day, starting at 9 a.m. and going until 11 p.m.
Sunday wrapped up the weekend with all women’s teams competing at Malcolm X
College, starting at 10 a.m. The atmosphere was just as electric, and the games were
just as exciting.

The Chicago Elite Classic will be back next year, and if this weekend was any
indication, it’s only going to get better. Make sure to stay tuned for update this is an
event you don’t want to miss.
