Introducing Miss Mulatto

Heeeeeeeeey Y’all! What’s up?

So hopefully many of you have been watching the Rap Game and if you haven’t been, go online and get caught up before the reunion this Friday. The Rap Game is a competition show, executive produced by Queen Latifah and Jermaine Dupri, where Jermaine gathered 5 young rappers, aged 12-16, and looked for his next big kid superstar. It’s only fitting since Dupri discovered Bow Wow and Kris Kross. The winner of the show was awarded a contract with Dupri’s record label, So-So Def– which is why we’re talking about Miss Mulatto.

Miss Mulatto, born Alyssa Michelle Stephens, is a 16 year old Atlanta rap artist who was featured on and recently won The Rap Game.

I know what you’re thinking… Miss Mulatto? Why does she call herself that? Doesn’t she know that’s a derogatory term? I thought the same thing and apparently many others have too because she addressed it and explained that she goes by that name because it represents her, not only literally since she is half white and half black, but because she is all about turning negative things into something positive. She went to a majority black school and remembers being bullied for being so light and for being half and half, and being called mulatto very often. Due to those experiences, she turned it around from something she hated to be called to something that she wants people to know her by.

I was rooting for Miss Mulatto since the first episode. She proved to be experienced, professional, and consistent. She was just just the most ready… she’s been rapping since she was 10 years old. Dupri made the right choice in my opinion; Mulatto’s skill is far beyond the skill of the other members of the show, Supa Peach, Young Lyric, Lil’ Poopy, and Lil’ Niqo. Miss Mulatto has the look and the sound, not to mention she’s extremely versatile. I’m ready for more women to join the rap game; if we can have more than just Lil’ Wayne, or more than just Kanye, or more than just Kendrick or Drake, why can’t we have more than just Nicki Minaj. Miss Mulatto is what we need and I’m so excited to see what she has in store for us- I don’t think she will let us down.
