Is RiRi Retiring?

Is the singer leaving music for fam & businesses

Rihanna shows off a short texture cut as she promotes her new hair care line.

Bad girl RiRi has announced her new Fenty Hair Line, a collection of products for curly hair and wavy hair of all lengths and styles. This is another business venture where the Barbadian superstar has solidified her spot as one of the most influential businesswomen in the world. She started her first line in the beauty industry in 2017. With Fenty Beauty’s annual revenue of $582 million, RiRi can certainly change the trajectory of an industry with her secret weapon: embracing diversity.

She has proven that she can excel in business after proving time and again she could excel in music. As much as we love trying out her beauty products and seeing what she will do next with her career, will she ever make music again? What we know is that her time as a CEO is time-consuming, managing the ins and outs of Fenty Beauty, Savage X Fenty and now Fenty Hair, along with raising two sons who’ve made her a new mommy. With many responsibilities, even if she did decide to release new music as anticipated, how will she find the time to do it?

I think we finally got our answer. The singer was recently spotted in New York (June 6th) wearing a graphic tee while walking with boyfriend/baby daddy A$AP Rocky.  It read, “I am retired.” This was a very noticeable way to tell us not to get our hopes up anymore. In April, she mentioned that music was indeed on the way and that “it’s going to be amazing,” according to Billboard, while talking to the entertainment show “Extra”. “It has to be — that is the only reason it’s not out yet. If I’m not feeling it and I’m not feeling like it represents evolution, the time I spent away… There should be a show of growth, right?” Maybe she was caught up in the moment, but we have yet to hear anything released by the talented Rihanna.

Recently, it was announced that the singer has officially become RIAA Diamond certified with “Most Diamond Singles for a Female Artist” and “Most Diamond Certified Titles for a Female Artist” with her significant milestones in the industry. She posted a screenshot of the congratulations message she received from RocNation and posted it with the caption, “ain’t no back n forth”.

Then at the top of June, the viral announcement of Fenty Hair Line was posted via her Instagram, featuring her in an advertising video wearing a trench coat with a blonde pixie cut. The leading caption shared her own experience with different hairstyles and textures, expressing her excitement to launch the product line, which will be available for purchase on June 13. With all this focus on beauty, it seems like music will have to take another backseat in the superstar’s busy career.

If we know anything about RiRi, she makes statements through fashion. Wearing that graphic tee right after launching a new product line strongly suggests we won’t be getting a ninth album anytime soon. Despite this, we still love her as a businesswoman who is paving the way for new looks in the beauty industry. She has proved she is a mogul with almost 20 years of music under her belt and is now entering a new realm of transformation through her beauty community. RiRi, we salute you.
