If for some reason you haven’t watched the news or read the latest headlines about what’s going on in Washington, then listen up! This week the U.S. Supreme Court is holding a hearing for Brett Kavanaugh. See, Kavanaugh was “supposed” to get a seat on the Supreme Court, but things got messy. Now he’s being accused of sexual assault by a women he met in high school, Christine Blasey Ford.
She claims Kavanaugh, “held her down on a bed…groped her and tried to pull of her clothes” during a party. And now two more women have come out and shared their stories on Kavanaugh. One of them, Julie Swetnick, said that Kavanaugh lined up with his boys at parties waiting to rape girls, cnbc.com reported.
This is something Kavanaugh is accused of doing when he was 16 years old. He’s 53 now. Here it is, almost four decades later, and his alleged past has caught up to him. He probably could have had his seat in the Supreme Court with no worries if this didn’t come up, but instead they’re holding a hearing. Kavanaugh’s current situation should serve as a life lesson to teens everywhere. I know we’re young and all, but making these type of mistakes are never okay. Fellas pay attention! Consent always matters. ALWAYS.
Not only is sexual assault just flat out wrong, but this could really set you back from getting into college or even getting a job. Since practically everything our generation does is online, it is so easy to find out almost anything you do in life–good and bad. So be smart about your choices. Even if it’s just “high school,” what you do now still matters and it could affect your future. Just ask Kavanaugh.
