Kellogg’s Black Management Association Schools TS Students

The members of the Black Management Association (BMA) of Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

Kellogg School of Management in Northwestern University carries the notable title of being one of the best business schools in the United States. For those trying to achieve their MBA (Masters of Business Administration) this school has a lot to offer. So many extracurricular activities, and different groups all across the campus help bring loads of variety to the school’s social experience. Recently, True Star teamed up with the “it” group on campus, the amazing Black Management Association, who shed some light on this aspect of the college experience.

Kellogg’s BMA members Bre Thomas, Karley Woods, Keyaira Adewunmi, Kristen Jordan, and Vanessa Debra took the time to do a “Session With The Pro’s” event to teach True Star’s marketing, podcasting, social media, and freelance teams about their association. They pride themselves by upholding their core values, operating as a family, providing academic and career support, and building a network of allies. By taking students, lifting them off the ground, and caring for them before they go into the business world, the BMA teaches young adults how to advocate for themselves in the industry along with showing them how to navigate through life.

We talked about what a day in the life would look like for students, and we were also made aware of all the different benefits the BMA has.

To get your MBA you need an undergrad degree, but it doesn’t need to be in a business major. Thomas said, “I personally was a political science major. I was in sales pre business school. It’s a degree for anyone and everyone, you just have to go in focused on developing your career.” She stated that you usually have a four year undergrad degree with some work experience, along with a GMAT test score. With an MBA degree, you can get a professional marketing job, a strategy job, or a finance job. Occupations like finance managers, strategic planning managers, and brand managers are common for those with their MBA. The benefits with the BMA program allow you to network with peers, learn the basics of negotiation, travel and so much more. The major benefit is that the BMA gives students the opportunity to find community with people similar to them.

“I deeply believe that if you’re looking to apply to Kellogg and you want to stand out, speak your truth, be honest about who you are, tell your story as authentically as you can, and be able to show how you are expanding your opportunities in areas that you want to grow,” said Adewunmi. “If you’re involved in community service and you’re involved in things that you care about, all of those things matter. You are worthy and you are capable.”

All in all, the True Star students learned a lot and got an open perspective of what life is like in business school, and the deets about the Black Management Association. Check out the full experience by watching the video below.
