Canadian rapper Tory Lanez was sentenced to 10 years in prison for the shooting of rapper Megan Thee Stallion in 2020.
Though he pled not guilty, in December 2022, he was found guilty of all three charges which include “assault with a firearm, illegal possession of a firearm and negligent discharge of a gun,” according to NPR.
Being that Lanez is from Canada, he is also facing deportation from the United States following the completion of his jail sentence.
A dispute that took place on July 12, 2020, is where this all stemmed from. Following leaving Kylie Jenner’s pool party, Lanez shot Megan Thee Stallion in her feet leaving bullet fragments that required surgery to remove.
Because Megan Thee Stallion is such a popular and well-known rapper, this situation has brought more awareness to violence against women. If these things can happen to celebrities, they are definitely happening to noncelebrities on a much larger scale.
