Obama and Trump have been caught having a civil conversation and Americans are genuinely shocked, which is messed up if you think about it. The two former presidents were at Jimmy Carter’s funeral, the 39th president of the US.
Carter, who died at the age of 100, had a two-hour service surrounded by friends, family, and colleagues.
It’s crazy how news about Obama and Trump got my attention before news on the actual funeral did. A big angle being pushed is not only the fact that they’re talking, but it was actually during the service, where it’s normally supposed to be quiet.
The conversation wasn’t picked up but we could see and it was bewildering to see Obama bust a laugh in a conversation with Trump. The two have been on opposing sides of politics and heavy blows were thrown on both sides, so it makes us really wonder about the nature of the conversation.
The static that comes from seeing the two have a simple conversation is really a reflection on how divided the country is. We don’t know for sure what was said between the two, but I think we can take a lot from this situation.
Seeing Obama speak to Trump so lightheartedly reminds me of Vice President Kamala Harris’s speech after losing the election. She was urging for the country to be united even after her heartbreaking loss, so seeing Obama merely speak to Trump shouldn’t be a big surprise.
Everyone is entitled to how they feel about the outcome of our latest election, but don’t let political views get in the way of loving your fellow man. I know it feels like “us vs. them,” but we really are in this together. I urge you guys to be the bridge that connects understanding and don’t fall in the pits of close mindedness.
Rest In Peace to President Jimmy Carter who lived a long life and served this country as best he could. Thoughts and prayers to his family, and in his name let’s be the best Americans we can.
