If you’ve been following the story, after the 2015 Oscars a week ago, Lupita Nyong’o’s Oscar dress she wore on the red carpet was stolen.
The gown, which was a custom Calvin Klein Collection dress made of 6000 pearls, was stolen from her hotel room while she was out. Over the week, authorities had been hunting down the dress and thief up until today at approximately 3 p.m. when according to eonline, they received a call from a media representative telling them that they received an anonymous tip regarding the $150,000 dress. The tip informed L.A. police that the dress could be found back at The London Hotel in West Hollywood where the theft originally took place.
TMZ stated that they were the ones who were contacted by the thief.
The crazy thing about this story, you ask? According to the thief, the gown’s pearls are fake. In an apparent try for some money, the thief took a few pearls off of the dress and took them to the downtown L.A. garment district to get a price only to be told that they were fake. The thief called TMZ because he wanted the world to know “Hollywood’s fake bulls–t.”
At this time no one has been arrested.
