Me & Nic Broke Up

A Special ‘From the ‘Go’ Episode

FTG hosts Gary Langfield Jr. and Iesha Brown welcome Juan Orteg and H5wk AKA Mr.Scuba for the anti vaping show “Me & Nic Broke Up”.

“From The ‘Go Show” (FTG) had its first live audience, in partnership with the Chicago Department of Public Health. The episode urged teens to end their one-sided relationship with nicotine and put down the vapes for good.

“FTG” had an immersive conversation with Juan Ortega from the Department of Public Health about what nicotine does to your body and mind.

However, Ortega wasn’t the only guest on stage in front of the masses engaging in conversation, H5wk AKA Mr.Scuba himself appeared as a special guest, using his platform for the right reasons.

H5wk is a music artist and content creator responsible for the viral internet dance to his song called “Scuba Juke”. The Scuba presence on stage provided a lot of positive and funny energy to the otherwise heavy topic.

Ortega had a lot to say when it came to explaining all the negative things that come from staying in a relationship with nicotine. Most notably, when you develop a habit of smoking nicotine your brain will start releasing dopamine. Dopamine is that reward sensation in your brain that releases after doing something you feel good about, so when you make a habit out of smoking nicotine you’re tricking your brain into thinking it’s an award.

This makes getting addicted so easy and you won’t even feel like it’s wrong, especially if you’re a teenager because your brain is still developing.

After talking about this, Ortega came to a clear conclusion. “Nicotine is extremely dangerous you are setting yourself up for a lifelong addiction.”

This type of messaging needs to be blasted from the rooftops but “From the ‘Go Show” was a great place to do it because the live audience consisted of teens that are currently employed by True Star. These teens are a part of this year’s Digital Media Institute where the students learn digital media skills to create short form content under the mentorship of filmmaker, Briana Clearly and photographer, Lockridge aka Lock.

A few select students’ questions were asked on the show. Prince M. had a good solution oriented question, asking how we can help a person that’s already addicted to nicotine. Juan mentioned approaching the person with the addiction with grace and he emphasized an important point saying, “Quitting is hard and typically it takes multiple attempts to successfully quit.”

Shout out to The Chicago Department of Public Health for taking this vaping epidemic seriously and spreading the word about the harms of nicotine.

In between the many scuba jokes H5wk said something that was attention grabbing. “With vaping, it can’t just be my voice…everybody gotta say something.”

Go check out the episode of “Me & Nic Broke Up” on the “From The ‘Go Show,” and get advice on how you too can break free of your one-sided relationship with nicotine.
