Meet The Artist: Rewind Aka Realness

Hailing from Rock Island, IL featured in the Quad City Times, John Gunter Jr, also known as, Rewind is a Quad City based spoken word and hip-hop lyricist. Rewind, a graduate of Illinois State University has generated a substantial following in the both the spoken word and hip-hop scene. Performing on the Illinois college circuit at University of Illinois Urbana/Champaign, Lewis University, Northern Illinois University and frequenting Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville’s Live from the booth radio show. He boasts a keen sense of realism paired with a catchy and melodic flow. Rewind has opened for Big Sean and performed at the Chicago Dunk Exchange.

Rewind’s focus is to bring FRESH thoughts with realistic images and he challenges others to lift as they climb. Rewind is an individual putting out the real of himself, as well as the real of others. He speaks of himself as the narrator for the people. What separates Rewind from other artists is his humbleness and keen sense of reality. Some of Rewind’s musical influences are: The Temptations, Michael Jackson, Nas, Nelly, and Eminem.

Rapping since the age of 13, Rewind started performing his pieces at age 18, his freshman year at Illinois State University. He began taking his talent more seriously in late 2012. In January 2013 he dropped his mixtape,”The Wisdom 2“based off the musical, The Wiz. Videos featured from that mixtape were, “The Story” and “IDGAP”. Rewind’s pieces have parental and edited pieces, so that everyone can listen. From his deep lyrics to his individual swag, Rewind brings a whole different demeanor to the music industry. One word to describe his style is genuine. What you all can look forward to for the month of June is a new mixtape from Rewind called “Alcoholism” based off alcohol. An inebriated lyricist and intoxicated DJ presents Alcoholism. His label and entertainment group F&E (Fresh Epidemics Entertainment) involves his artist Kevin Reed and his DJ DJ Diggs. Three favorite tracks from Rewind’s upcoming mixtape include: “Sex On the Beach”, “Sober Thoughts”, and “Liquid Courage”. His second up and coming mixtape called “Second Home” will be featuring and produced by Chicago artists this SUMMER!! So Stay Tuned!
