It may be 2019, but it’s starting to feel more and more like the early 2000s, because some of my favorite boy bands are coming back together. The tween that still lives inside of me is so excited. Lately, it seems that this very important piece of the R&B make-up has been missing. Honestly, the last boy band I remember is Mindless Behavior and their last Billboard topper was in 2011. Clearly, I am not the only one who’s been missing these fellas because more and more reunions and tour dates are being announced.
First, let’s start with the OG boy band. After the release of “The New Edition Story” on BET, the members of New Edition were rumored to do a tour with some of the cast members. But that rumor was shut down once Ralph Tresvant and Johnny Gill said they weren’t going on tour. If you know anything about New Edition than you know that one person (or two) stops no show. With that being said, Bell Biv DeVoe added a new member. Ronnie, Bobby, Ricky, & Mike (RBRM) are set to be going on tour this year and if you’re interested in getting tickets to see them they’ll be in this neck of woods this spring.
Although they aren’t considered R&B, the Jonas Brothers were one of my favorite boy bands growing up. When their last album came out in 2009 and they officially split in 2013, I didn’t know what I was going to do. It was officially the end of my Disney era. But when Nick Jonas dropped “Jealous” in 2014 I was overwhelmed with joy. Not only was Nick my favorite growing up, but his new music was also more on the R&B side than the pop side we were used to with the JB. Joe Jonas was also making a splash in music with his group DNCE. At the end of February, the Jonas Brothers officially announced that they were back with a new single called “Sucker” with Nick Jonas officially taking the lead where he rightfully belongs.
The only reason I started watching “Love & Hip-Hop: Hollywood” and “Miami” was because of the hopes of two boy bands getting back together. In 2014 both Omarion and Lil’ Fizz were set to be cast members on the franchise in LA. To this day, I am the biggest B2K fan. I faithfully listen to their music like now. And I was beyond excited about the possibility of them getting back together. But sadly, my dreams of them getting back together wouldn’t be answered with the help of Mona Scott. Then in 2018 the LHH crew went to Miami and got members of Pretty Ricky to be on the cast. Again I thought I’d be seeing tour dates go up for the group right after the series premiered. Luckily my prayers were answered with the Millennium Tour. Now I get to see both B2K and Pretty Ricky on stage together this spring! To say that I cannot wait is an understatement! Maybe we will even be getting new music from both groups after the tour. I guess we will have to wait and see. To get tour tickets now, just click here.
