New Animation Program ‘Procreate Dreams’ to Release Soon

The new animation program Procreate Dreams is set to release this November at an affordable price.

If you’re an artist, chances are you’re familiar with the paid drawing app Procreate. The app released in March of 2011 for iPad by developing team Savage Interaction, quickly gaining a cult following. Now, it’s the best selling drawing app and has even won two Apple Design Awards in 2013 and 2022.

But Savage Interaction doesn’t want to stop just there. In fact, they’re going on to revolutionize drawing apps forever.

The new app “Procreate Dreams” was announced earlier this September, and it’s bigger, better, and bolder than ever. It’s aimed towards not just standard 2D drawing, but specialized in animation, 2D and 3D alike.

You can draw and paint, using your favorite Procreate brushes, and even add real-time effects, motion, and sound. A highlighted feature is being able to draw directly in the stage, and adjust how everything fits on your timeline with ease. It uses instant playback — combining frame-by-frame features from a regular animation app with keyframe animation from a video editing app. It’s currently exclusive to iPad (in part due to its Apple Pen support), but it also has its own Procreate Cloud support for on-the-go saving.

Above, artist Alex Kunchevsky on Twitter/X shows off his new animation in the beta version of Procreate Dreams.

And the best part? It will be a single, one time purchase of $19.99. No worrying about forgetting you have a monthly subscription due, or a sudden spike in price, like so many other art programs out there.

With this payment accessibility, Procreate Dreams shares its goal, “Art is for everyone.”

The app is designed so both beginners and professionals can both enjoy and create. Revealed at London’s Playgrounds in Motion Event, Procreate Dreams was described as an app to make it easier for everyone to make stories, without having to go back and forth between separate drawing, animating, and video editing apps like before.

Procreate CEO James Cuda said, “Today is a major milestone for Procreate, and for the animation industry. Our team has worked for over five years to produce an animation product that is extraordinarily approachable and exceptionally powerful. Later this year, we’re helping to unlock the creative potential within all of us and giving a voice to storytellers everywhere.”

This app has a chance to change the animation industry and how art programs are made. But, ultimately, it’s simply aimed to make things bigger and better for what matters: the storytellers and artists who use it.

Procreate Dreams will be available to purchase on November 22, 2023.
