Shots have been fired from all directions ever since the release of rap artist, Megan Thee Stallion’s new single “HISS” was released this past Friday. It has become nearly impossible to scroll through any social media app without seeing the names Megan Thee Stallion or Nicki Minaj at least once on your feed. The majority of the feud has been carried on by self-proclaimed “Queen of Rap,” Minaj, who has been quite vocal on social media about her distaste for Megan Thee Stallion. Although the feud between the two successful rappers culminated this weekend, it has become evident this dispute began months prior.
Before the beef erupted, both Megan Thee Stallion and Minaj were believed to be in good standing, with Minaj being featured on Megan’s 2019 hit “Hot Girl Summer”. It was not until Megan collaborated with Cardi B (notorious for being an enemy of Minaj) on “WAP” in 2020 that Minaj’s fans (aka the Barbz) began to turn against her. The next time that Minaj mentioned Megan was in her March 2023 single “Red Ruby Da Sleeze” in which Minaj allegedly dissed Megan with the line “I don’t f*ck with horses since Christopher Reeves,” (a diss at Megan’s stage name “Thee Stallion,” which is a breed of horse). After almost a year of radio silence from Megan, she released the single “HISS,” in which she allegedly dissed multiple hip-hop artists including Minaj.
The lyric “These hoes don’t be mad at Megan, these hoes mad at Megan’s Law.” is what is believed to have been a diss towards Minaj. Megan’s Law is a federal law passed in 1996 which required law enforcement agencies to make the information about known sex offenders public. Both Minaj’s brother and husband have been convicted of sexual crimes against minors. Just hours after the release of “HISS” Minaj came to both X and Instagram Live to rant about Megan. In one of these Instagram lives, Minaj previewed a now-released track titled “Big Foot” (poking fun at height and weight) toward Megan in response to “HISS”. In the track, Minaj pokes fun at the passing of Megan’s mother, the 2020 incident in which Megan was shot by rapper Tory Lanez, as well as implying that Megan had liposuction surgery.
The internet is polarized, to say the least. According to Complex, Minaj’s fans are ardently defending her, going as far as doxxing people (disclosing personal information, such as home addresses) who side with Megan Thee Stallion. Multiple Nicki Minaj fan accounts have even gone as far as posting the location of Megan’s late mother’s gravesite, encouraging people to vandalize and desecrate the area. As of now, Megan has yet to respond to Minaj in any way, stating that she is staying off of social media in a short interview with The Breakfast Club radio show earlier this weekend.
Since the release of “Big Foot,” Minaj has stated on X, that she has five more tracks ready to be released if Megan denies any of the claims that Minaj made on her first diss track. As a new week begins, the feud does not seem to be cooling down.
