Novavax: The Newest COVID Vaccine

Novavax Vaccine

After having Pfizer, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines, the CDC has cleared a new vaccine: Novavax.

This new vaccine comes with a twist: “The Novavax vaccine injects copies of the spike protein that are grown in a lab and packaged into nanoparticles that to the immune system resemble a virus,” according to NPR.

The target audience of this particular vaccine is people 18 and over who have not already been vaccinated.

The Novavax vaccine is “90% effective at preventing illness overall and 100% effective at preventing severe disease when the alpha variant of COVID was dominant,” according to CNBC.

This comes at the perfect time as sub-variants have become more immune to the vaccines and more heavily seen as case numbers have been increasing. Places like California have even considered reinstating their mask mandate due to rising case numbers.

The two-dose vaccine will be available in weeks to come. Would you get the Novavax vaccine?
