Growing up, I’ve always been in love with clothes. I liked to dress in different outfits and match different colors or patterns together. I grew up being bigger than most of my friends and peers which made me feel a little insecure and self-conscious about myself. It was mostly because I rarely saw people that had my body type online or in person.
Being someone that uses social media frequently, it’s easy to see the damage that it can cause to one’s self-esteem. Content posted to different platforms can create insecurities and set unrealistic expectations for one’s physical appearance. Instead of following people who made me feel insecure, I began to follow people who helped me to increase my confidence. Plus-sized fashion content creators are a huge reason why I’m beginning to feel more comfortable in my skin and wearing the clothes that I like regardless of what others may think.
