[New Video & More] Dez- ‘Underneath Me’

How many of you all miss R&B music? I don’t mean Trey Songz and Chris Brown either.Wait, before I go on, I am not dissing Chris or Trey. You all know how much I love them. But I’m talking about a little bit of Michael Jackson and Bobby Brown. I’m talking about that soulful music. Well I’m not sure about you guys but I miss it. I may not have been old enough to understand that music when it was in full effect but I am now.

I had the opportunity to interview an artist who is bringing that kind of music back for the world. His name is Dezmond Armstead. He goes by Dez. He has a mixtape, “Real Talk,” that will be dropping tomorrow  (Nov 28).  I had to ask Dez what is he trying to change about R&B  music today? He responded with, ” Music today is not the same. It has a different swagg. I’m not trying to change the music today. I’m only bringing back old school with a little bit of  my own flavor. I want to change people’s thought process and bring back that fun and good feeling music.”

I also asked him where does he see himself in the music industry. Dez sees himself “being a role model to people. I want my name to be out there. I want people to look up to me. I want awards too.” Dez was pretty confident about things he had in store for himself.  He had a very laid back personality and it was clear to me that success was what he longed for. Everyone knows with success comes struggles. That was another thing I was curious about in Dez’s life.  He told me that, “My biggest challenge is staying focused. I stay in the studio. I stay as close to music as I can. I have to stay hungry for music..”

How many hours a day do artists stay in the studio? I don’t know about all artists but this dedicated one stays in the studio for about twelve or more hours a day.Yes ladies and gents–this is 24/7. Seems like he’s pretty persistent. I had to ask if he could perform with anybody in the world (dead or alive) who would it be? He could not choose one person, so I gave him the benefit of the doubt and told him he could choose a few people. Dez would like to perform with “Chris Brown, Usher, Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson, and Bobby Brown.” Michael Jackson and Bobby Brown are his biggest inspirations.

I know you all want to know about this mixtape, Real Talk. Don’t worry–I got you guys. I asked him what is this mixtape all about? He said, “The mixtape is me. It is me being true to who I am. It’s feel good music. As stated in his bio Real Talk deals with ” trying to get girls in high school, failing, succeeding, the good times, the bad times and hurdles that young guys and girls go through on that journey to finally find that special someone.”  The mixtape is supposed to express the realness of true life.

He currently has two songs out right now, We Ride and his cover of Beyonce’s song I Miss You. Below are the links to both songs. Tomorrow he will be releasing a new song .The song will have a special artist that the world already knows featured on it. I tried to get him to tell me who, but unfortunately he would not snitch. Good thing is we find out very soon who that artist will be. I really believe that he has potential to be a great and well-known artist. Be on the look out tomorrow for new talent! Dez is about to take over the music industry tremendously.
