CPS has had its ups and downs but this is plain ridiculous. The basic excuse for closing down these elementary schools, that are predominantly in African American neighborhoods, is because of low performance. I have read the comments across the Internet and I must say that I really am confused how individuals that have not grown up as minorities let alone in these neighborhoods feel that they have a say so in how the schools are run. Closing a school like West Pullman and having the children go to Haley (my former elementary school) will cause the school to overcrowd and that will be another problem along the line. Were the options already exhausted and there was nothing else that could be done? Or was it a more money savvy option; I refuse to hear the “Chicago is broke” nonsense! Side Note: I would not be surprised if after these schools shut down the teachers organize another strike.
