Founded in 1951, Miss World is the oldest running international beauty pageant. In this year’s London competition, the final three women in the running were Miss Jamaica, Toni-Ann Singh; Miss Nigeria, Nyekachi Douglas; and Miss Brazil; Elis Coelho.
The winner of the competition was Miss Jamaica, but you wouldn’t have known based on the reaction that came from Miss Nigeria. After hearing the words “And Miss World 2019 is Jamaica” Miss Nigeria immediately began to bounce around the stage in excitement for her friend.
Even though she wasn’t the one who won the competition, she didn’t care because she was happy that her girl was able to be take home the crown. That’s the kind of friend I want to have and want to be. Miss Nigeria gained a lot of love across news outlets and social media for her actions and the team spirit she exhibited.

Everyone deserves to have a friend like Miss Nigeria who’s excited to see them prosper and be successful. If you aren’t being that kind of friend, then are you really a friend at all? Celebrate your friends and their success even if it means that you aren’t the one in the spotlight.
