Snooze Or Lose! Shop For Back-To-School Now

Take advantage of the tax holiday before the 14th

From August 5th to the 14th, Illinois is having a tax holiday on clothes and school supplies. That means that the tax will be dropped from 6.25% to 1.25% over the course of the holiday. Here’s why you should get your back-to-school shopping done now:

According to NBC 5 Chicago News, State Senator Rachelle Crowe introduced Bill 157, which lowers the tax on school supplies and clothes by 5% for ten days in August. She said in a statement: “As a nod to our working parents, guardians and teachers in Illinois, lowering the tax rate on school supplies removes a burden when preparing for the academic year, it is my hope that by instituting a tax holiday, we can help relieve families and educators of some financial costs in order to prepare students for the upcoming school year.” This was part of a larger plan by Governor J.B. Pritzker to help lower spending budgets for families in need, which went into effect July 1st of 2022.

The tax will be dropped from 6.25% to 1.25% over the course of the tax holiday.

The wide list of clothes included in the holiday (school uniforms, bathing suits, shirts, pants, and more) have to be under one hundred and twenty five dollars, but that doesn’t apply for school supplies. The school supplies included are all the typical ones you’ll probably find yourself needing, as well as certain art supplies, computer parts, and cameras. For the full list, click here.

If the big list wasn’t enough to convince you, just the thought of saving more from the usual expensive hassle of getting things for school should. Your parents probably get headaches from all the yearly shopping, and the expenses at the end don’t help. Go to wherever you get your supplies before the holiday ends and get it over with, before you find yourself doing it at the last minute and wondering why you didn’t take advantage of all the cheaper supplies earlier.
