Summer Mood Music

The summer isn’t my favorite season just because of my birthday and the weather, but because it seems like artists drop some of the best projects when it’s hot out. For the past three years, I’ve created a summer playlist that completes my summer mood. I’ve decided to let y’all in on some of my go to’s and hopefully put y’all on to some new music.

On Chill x Wale & Jeremih

Wale has the select formula when it comes to infusing R&B and hip-hop. This song might be better than “Lotus Flower Bomb” and “Matrimony.” The song samples Raphael Saadiq’s “Ask of You,” it’s a very chill tune you can play while driving down Lake Shore Drive on any summer day or night.

U Say x Goldlink (feat. Tyler the Creator & Jay Prince)

Goldlink also knows the secret formal to craft a bomb summer hit. The 2016 hit “Crew” is def a joint that still gets put into rotation through the year. “U Say” is an upbeat chill song and hearing Tyler’s deep voice on the song is the highlight of it for me.

Under the Sun x J. Cole Lute & DaBaby

Revenge of the Dreams III is such a dope project and has so many bangers on it, but “Under the Sun” is probably one of my fave songs off of the project. I’m not sure whose verse is better J. Cole or DaBaby, but each time I listen to the song my favorite verse changes. I love what J. Cole did with the newcomers to the game.

Jump Off x Lil Kim

I think this song has made it to every playlist I’ve created no matter the season or reason. The Queen Bee is the GOAT and “Jump Off” is the song that you have to rap word for word. I’ve loved this song since it’s release in 2003, and I highly doubt my love for it will change. I know there are a lot of new female rappers out right now, but I don’t know if any of their songs will top “Jump Off.”

Wish Wish x Cardi B, 21 Savage & DJ Khaled

Cardi and 21 have teamed up again and I’m not mad at all. I only liked two songs on DJ Khaled’s new album and this is one of them. The beat is simple and the song hits. It’s def one of my ratchet summer bangers.

*Honorable mention: Mo Zeros X the Homies

The Homies are a group from my hometown of Louisville, KY, and “Mo Zeros” is a song that gives off “Back That Azz Up” vibes and you can def tell by the intro that it was inspired by Juvie and the Hot Boyz. It’s a song that is going to make you want to twerk and I looooove it.
