Summertime Chi Date Ideas

Millennium Park Movies in the Park series

The weather is finally breaking in Chicago, so that means indoor dates are now an option rather than a necessity. Let’s explore some of Chicago’s outdoor hidden gems, that can also count as your next date with your special someone.

Rolling Stones Records: Are you both a record shop and old band enthusiast? If this is you and your significant other, I highly recommend checking out one of the coolest vintage record stores –  Rolling Stone Records! The ambiance is almost like a nostalgic blast from the past, as it was originally opened in 1971 as a small storefront. The vibes are unmatched, and have some of the oldest to newest releases available.

Mario’s Italian Lemonade: If you’re anything like me, getting a sweet treat for a date is a personal favorite. Located in Little Italy, Mario’s, the 70-year-old Italian Ice shop is now open! With Little Italy being such a vibrant neighborhood, grabbing Italian ice and soaking in the atmosphere at parks or little shops is perfect for a date this summer!

Free Movies in Millennium Park: Who wants to be cooped up in a cold movie theater during the summertime? From Chicago’s rooftop cinema to dine-in movies. The city has a plethora of options to choose from when discussion of outdoor films takes place, including Millennium Park features. You could even purchase a projector, get a sheet and DIY it.

However, a free and intimate take is Millennium Park’s free movies and their official summer return. Starting July 16th through August 20th, every Tuesday at 6:30 pm, check out their 2024 movie lineup on Instagram’s beloved ChicagoBucketList. Grab a blanket and a picnic basket filled with your favorite snacks and enjoy the film!

Lincoln Park Green City Farmers Market: On Saturdays from 7:00 am to 1:00 pm, Lincoln Park hosts its Green City Farmers Market. Help support local and sustainable farmers, by purchasing fresh goods and produce. Not only can you shop, but learn about the importance of sustainability and vibe to live music. I suggest grabbing items like dough, fresh tomatoes, and additional toppings to see who makes the best homemade pizza!

There’s never not anything to do in the city, especially during the summer. There’s no excuse to not plan a date that’s not your average “sky zone” or “Icon Theaters”. Make it a bit unique, and have fun!
