This Sunday the Chicago Bears won’t be in another playoff game because unfortunately our time has come to an end end, but the beauty of this season can’t be overstated. We ended the season at the top of our division with an 11-5 record, when just last season we were at the bottom with a 5-12 record.
This season was such a change in culture for the Bears thanks to our new head coach Ben Johnson. The impact that Johnson has had on the trajectory of this franchise is monumental because he has brought a winning mentality to the team.
However, we can’t talk about Johnson without mentioning what attracted him to the Bears, Caleb Williams AKA the best decision our franchise has made.
Williams has made a huge leap in his second year in the NFL with even more room to grow which is insane to think about. With 27 touchdowns and nearly 4,000 yards, he has overly shown the reason he was the number one draft pick.
Of course it takes more than two people to turn a franchise around, but their leadership has brought the best out of everybody on the team. With Williams at the helm, Colston Loveland, a rookie coming out of Michigan, scored 6 touchdowns with 713 yards this season.
Under Johnson’s running scheme, De’Andre Swift had over 1,000 yards under his belt and is Kyle Monangai behind him with nearly 800 for himself. Having a successful run game is crucial for allowing Williams to flourish on offense.
The team is young and ambitious, players and coaches alike, tasting the victory of nail biting games. Even if we didn’t make it to the Super Bowl, Bears fans are happy knowing that we’re competing at a high level.
After the loss against the Rams, Johnson said, “There is no building off of this, we go back to square one.” If that really is the case, the fans still have full confidence we can be competitive next year due to the work we’ve seen this year.
We’re thankful for the respect and higher standard that came with this season of football. I know it didn’t end the way we wanted it to, but this season was nothing short of spectacular. Thank you Chicago Bears for giving us a season we’ll never forget and for knocking the Packers out of the playoffs.
