The 2014 McDonald’s All-American Games


The biggest storyline in the NBA this year is “tanking”, the strategy that teams use to land the top young talent in the upcoming draft. This ties into the McDonald’s All-American games because there is no doubt that numerous professional level scouts will be in attendance. The McDonald’s All-American games have long been one of the best ways to find excellent male and female basketball talent.

The boys and girls games will be held on Wednesday, April 2 at 6:00 p.m. CT from Chicago’s United Center.

This year’s game will have a Chicago flavor to it due to the immense amount of talent constantly coming out of the city.

The final teams will be announced during the McDonald’s All American Games Selection Show on ESPNU on January 29 at 5:00 p.m. CT. The Illinois nominees are: Cliff Alexander (Curie High School – Chicago), Keita Bates-Diop (University High School – Normal), Victor Law (St.Rita High School – Chicago), Dominique Matthews (St.Rita High School – Chicago), JayQuan McCloud (North Chicago Community High School – North Chicago), Jahlil Okafor (Whitney Young High School – Chicago), Miles Reynolds (Whitney Young High School – Chicago),    Tyler Ulis (Marian Catholic High School – Chicago Heights), Paul White (Whitney Young High School – Chicago); and the female nominees are:  Amarah Coleman (Homewood Flossmoor High School – Flossmoor), Kortney Dunbar (Edwardsville High School – Edwardsville), Khaalia Hillsman (Whitney Young High School – Chicago), Jasmine Lumpkin (Joliet Catholic Academy – Bolingbrook).

On the list above there are numerous prospects with serious professional potential. Some of these players will be attending elite basketball schools such as Duke, Kansas, Kentucky, and Georgetown just to name a few.

The 2014 McDonald’s All-American games will give fans a sneak peak into the future of basketball, and you can be sure the Illinois prospects will show out for the hometown crowd.
