The Future of Fashion: NYFW Sp 2025

Designs from the Collina Strada Spring 2025 show.

The major event in the history of fashion, also widely recognized as New York Fashion Week, takes place twice a year — September and February. The most recent NYFW took place this past week from September 6th to September 11th. NYFW sets the precedent for other huge fashion week(s) to follow, like London, Milan, and Paris. There were many shows held all over New York City throughout the fashion exhibition-filled week. There’s nothing like fashion week, where designers from all over, showcase their hard work, visions, depictions, and messages.

Collina Strada’s Spring 2025 Show: Strada’s show was a personal favorite of mine. It was creative and embodied expression and nature. A model somersaulted onto the runway and grabbed grass from the root to throw at the iconic lead singer of the band ‘Paramore’ – Hayley Williams, who’s a huge supporter, sat front and center of the show. “I’m repping them hard all fashion week, ” Williams said.

The model then continued walking away in what Vogue magazine describes as “artful dancing, acrobatics, and death drops that were more akin to diving into the earth.” The genius behind this collection, known as Hillary Taymour, named the collection “Touch Grass”.

Laquan Smith SS25: Smith shared his collection at a loft in Bushwick. Not only were the models beautiful, but they brought nothing but personality back onto the runway. The 90s models would be proud! The individuality of each unique look and piece matched with fierce walks caught the attention of crowds.

Polo Ralph Lauren SP25: Imaan Hamman, Lucky Blue-Smith, and Naomi Campbell walked for Ralph Lauren’s SP25 collection, embodying nothing short of high glamor and the serenity of the show’s location in the Hamptons. This was Campbell’s first time walking for Ralph Lauren since 1997. In a recap post of the show, she explained the experience as nostalgic and special.

Pieter Muiler’s “Maison Alaia”: The Maison Alaia collection was presented at the Guggenheim Museum in NYC. Muiler’s muses, Mona Tougaard, Julia Nobis, Mariacarla Boscono, and more all walked in a crowd that held legendary Naomi Campbell and the original muse of Alaia – Rihanna. According to VogueRunway, the venue was fitting, as the spiral detailing of the museum mimicked “gravity-defying architectural silhouettes”.

If you are someone interested in fashion or attending fashion week, the countdown for the spring has just begun. You have five months to plan for next season. Based on this fall season’s showcases, I anticipate that designers will bring even more creativity for the spring. Did you attend or watch in on Fashion Week Fall 2024? What was your favorite moment?
