Dr. Anthony Fauci, President Biden’s Chief Medical Adviser, recently declared the United States is in a “transitional phase” as it relates to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We are currently right now in this country out of the pandemic phase,” Fauci told PBS.
Fauci and other health professionals have stressed the fact that this doesn’t mean the pandemic is over.
“If you look at the global situation, there’s no doubt this pandemic is still going,” said Fauci according to ABC News.
Being out of the pandemic phase, according to Fauci, means that the pandemic still exists but that people in the US are experiencing higher levels of immunity and lower numbers of deaths at the hands of the virus compared to the past. Ironically, reported cases are on the rise right now.
Seeing as we’re still in the midst of a pandemic, it’s important to continue to practice safety measures such as wearing a mask, social distancing, and frequently cleaning your hands and high touch surfaces to protect yourself and others.
