The Magic Johnson era in Los Angeles is now over. The former president of basketball operations for the Lakers has stepped down from the position, and it was shocking to everyone. Even LeBron James was shocked, according to ESPN. When Johnson announced it to reporters at a press conference on Tuesday, he said that he “wants to go back to having fun.” He also went on to describe how he misses his life from when he didn’t have the job as president. As the president of basketball operations, you’re given a lot of responsibilities. For example, Johnson could recruit anyone he wants, get any coach he wants, and even fire staff.
The most shocking part about all of this was that Johnson didn’t even tell his boss, owner Jeanie Buss. According to reports, he chose to tell the world before her which is not something that typically happens. One big reason NBA legend left was because he wasn’t happy with how the job was, since he couldn’t even congratulate other players on a good game from another team or else that’d be tampering, which would result in a fine. This whole story leads to the conclusion that if you don’t like what you’re doing in life, even if it’s the best job ever, you won’t be a happy person. Self-happiness comes before money and a title, which is why Johnson ultimately left. Let’s see who takes the spot now, and let’s see how this crazy offseason unfolds.
