Elena Delle Donne and the Washington Mystics crushed the Chicago Sky’s recent home opener winning 71-69 in the Commissioners Cup. It was a well fought battle through the whole game. Donne had 25 in the Mystics win while Shakira Austin had 15 points and 11 rebounds to go with.
It was not a good day for the Sky as late in the second Coach Wade received a technical
foul. If that’s not bad enough, Morgan Bertsch and Rebekah Gardner both left the game with
ankle injuries with Bertsch going down in the first quarter and Gardner in the fourth. The Sky
already had three players out for different reasons Ruthy Hebard, Isabella Harrison, and Sika Koné
so the Sky was short handed. The Sky also had 21 turnovers.

The Sky disappeared at the beginning of the first half allowing the Mystics to go on to score
basket after basket taking the lead 53-37. But just when you thought it was over, the Sky woke up to score 16 unanswered points making the game 60-53. The Sky would then proceed to tie the game 60-60.
Each team would continue to exchange baskets until about 40 seconds in the fourth where Donne
would hit a three to seal the game.
The key players for the Sky were Marina Mabrey who had 19 points, Courtney Williams with 13
points nine rebounds and five assist, and last but not least Kahleah Cooper with 12 points.
