True Star Takes Root in Historic Bronzeville Community

Continuing the Legacy of Creativity

Senator Robert Peters is treated to a presentation at True Star’s new Bronzeville headquarters. The new location is a multi-functional, flexible space with a creative studio.

In case you haven’t heard, True Star has a new home! After 15 years of working from our original downtown office, True Star Media has moved our headquarters to the historic Bronzeville community. The new space, located at 4655 S. King Drive, suite 203, puts True Star in the mix of a vibrant area budding with art, music, and small businesses. Our office is also in close proximity to public, private, charter, and parochial high schools.

Fresh talent keeps coming through the doors of True Star thanks to the monthly Open Mic events.

The Bronzeville neighborhood has always been known for its rich history steeped in creativity and culture. It is the home of the Chicago Defender, the publication that gave voice to the Great Migration. It also houses the Wabash Avenue YMCA, now a Chicago landmark, where Carter G. Goodson established the origins of Black History Month. This same community was even called home to some of the world’s most noted pioneers in the arts such as poet Gwendolyn Brooks, author Richard Wright, musician Louis “Satchmo” Armstrong, and journalist/activist Ida B. Wells.

Famous Poet and Author Gwendolyn Brooks is one of the most noted figures to have lived in Bronzeville.

The history of this community is in direct alignment with the impact that True Star has had, and continues to have, on Chicago youth interested in being content creators. This new location is a multi-functional, flexible space that has a creative studio along with a work and programming space for participants, but it can also be used to host small events. The Stand Up for True Star comedy fundraiser and our first Open Mic events have all recently taken place here.

Comedian Lele Mason performs at True Star’s second annual Stand Up for True Star comedy fundraiser.

Our new headquarters has brought a renewed energy and excitement to the organization. As we enter our 20th year of helping youth become their best selves, we anticipate an even  greater level of success. True Star is excited about extending access to the space to the community as well as servicing small businesses for their digital content needs.
