True Star, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering youth ages 16 to 24, recently celebrated the fifth annual From the Go Fest, held on July 26th. The event showcased emerging talent and provided a platform for young artists to shine.
Two months later, on September 26th, Michael Issac, the festival director and Chief Growth Officer of True Star, hosted a special reunion that brought all the performing artists together for an unforgettable celebration at True Star Headquarters in Bronzeville.
The reunion was more than just a gathering—it was a chance for artists to connect, socialize, and celebrate their achievements. Performers signed each other’s posters, received their official From the Go Fest 2025 concert t-shirts, and were surprised with a generous gift from Jordan Brand: a pair of Air Force 1 Jordan sneakers for everyone in attendance.
A highlight of the reunion was The Artist Advancement Award presented by True Star Media, with support from the Driehaus Foundation, our arts partner. Together, we share a vision of empowering young artists by providing the resources and opportunities they need to succeed. Two exceptional artists received $1,500 each in recognition of their talent and contributions to the community.
DeAnna Sherman, CEO of True Star, presented Lil’ M.U. with her award for her outstanding overall performance at From the Go Fest, her dynamic showmanship with her dancers, and her inspiring spirit. Despite having one of the hottest songs in the city this past summer, she still auditioned…twice—demonstrating dedication and humility that set her apart.
The second award recipient was Khari Ennui, honored for his remarkable sense of community. Ennui hosts events under his brand BLACKOUT, where he supports fellow artists by giving them performance opportunities and helping them gain recognition. He invited festival director Michael Issac to several Blackout events, showcasing artists who should audition for From the Go Fest. Impressively, about 25% of the artists who performed at the festival were referred by Ennui
Two performers in attendance that were given notable mentions were Young(in) and Juby Da God. Both just graduated from college this summer and both were winners of TIP Fest at the end of August. Juby received 3rd place and Young(in) was crowned first place in an historic moment being the first rapper to ever win TIP Fest in its 10-year history!
Other talented artists in attendance included Neicy Pooh, Deon Alphanzo, and Hay’lee Love, who was home for the weekend for the first time since leaving Chicago for her freshman year of college.
A special mention was given to Toine P, one of the judges, who showed up to support despite being on crutches from a recent surgery.
True Star’s From the Go Fest continues to be a vital platform for young artists, fostering talent, community, and opportunity for the next generation of performers.
