Halle Bailey, the 20-year-old actor/singer who is half of the award winning duo and Beyonce proteges Chloe X Halle, recently got her own doll. The “Grown-ish” co-star who will soon star as Ariel in the live-action-movie The Little Mermaid now has a replica of herself as her character. The doll even has her true facial features. In her video post to social media she shows off the toy saying, “And look, she even has my mole – see!” pointing to the mole above her eyebrow.

In a past interview, Bailey commented on how important this role is. “I know people are like, ‘It’s not about race.’ But now that I’m her … People don’t understand that when you’re Black there’s this whole other community,” she told The Face. “It’s so important for us to see ourselves.”
Many Black girls, including myself are excited to see more representation on the screen. This movie will bring another Black princess to the Disney franchise following in the footsteps of Princess and the Frog and the classic made-for-TV special Cinderella, starring Brandi. The latest version of the Disney classic Little Mermaid will premiere in theaters on May 26th.
